of popular music from the 1920’s to the 1950’s) and also Broadway tun
es.\nSummer Evening in Webster is a long running concert series held each
Sunday evening during the month of July.  It began in 1981 under the spon
sorship of the Webster Historical Society and organized largely by Webster
resident and unofficial historian\, Joe Rhinehart.  Joe said Professor R
obert Lee Madison (founder of Western Carolina University and also a Webst
er resident) was the inspiration for the concerts.  On summer evenings Pr
of. Madison would play violin on his front porch while his wife would play
piano inside the house with the window open.  People would stop by to li
sten.  This summer the series continues.  The public is invited to atten
d the free concerts which take place at the historic Webster United Method
ist Church. Concerts begin at 6:00 with a reception afterward.
