Webster UMC is a small rural congregation that is warm, open, and friendly. We are a church that wants to live by faith, is known by love, and is a voice of hope to our comunity. We desire to lead people to Christ and extend God's kingdom here on earth. Follow us on Facebook for more information and media.
The church is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest and one of the most architecturally significant churches in Jackson County. The wealth of detail, both Gothic and Classical, make it outstanding. Webster was added to the Methodist circuit in 1859 but the local congregation did not have a church building until 1887. No changes have been made to the exterior since its construction; on the interior the sanctuary, which originally occupied the interior as one large room, has been shortened to provide a space for a second room on the west end of the original sanctuary.
Although the Webster Church has never had a large congregation, early membership roles read “like a who’s who in North Carolina: Madison, McKee, Terrell, Alley, Enloe, Allison, Moore, Fisher, Broyles, Bryson, leaders of both church and state. The congregation has been continuously active since 1881 (Register of Historic Places application, 1989).
